Why UK enterprises are choosing Indian Salesforce partners

Salesforce work in the UK is expensive. A senior Salesforce developer in London runs £70K–£100K/year as a full-time employee. A specialist Salesforce consultancy with UK-based staff charges £800–£1,500 per day.

The India market offers the same technical capability at 30–40% of the cost.

This isn't new. What has changed is quality — and the mechanisms that signal it.

The certification gap has closed

Five years ago, finding a certified Salesforce architect outside the US or UK was unusual. Today, India produces more Salesforce certifications annually than any other country.

Certifications don't tell you everything, but they're a minimum filter. A partner without Salesforce-certified developers has no accountability structure — Salesforce's certification programs exist partly to ensure quality. Look for:

  • Salesforce Certified Application Architect or System Architect (not just Administrator or Developer)
  • Experience with your specific Cloud (Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Health Cloud, Experience Cloud)
  • Salesforce registered ISV or consulting partner status where relevant

Timezone overlap for UK clients

India (IST) is 4.5–5.5 hours ahead of UK time depending on BST. This is workable — more so than the US gap.

The typical pattern that works well for UK-India engagements: - UK morning (8–10 AM) = India afternoon overlap (1:30–3:30 PM) - Asynchronous updates through the day - UK afternoon feedback arrives in India end-of-day for next-morning implementation

With structured async communication, the gap becomes manageable without needing the offshore team to work evenings.

What UK clients often underestimate

The problems UK enterprises run into with Indian Salesforce partners are usually:

**Specification quality.** Indian developers are strong at executing specs. If your spec is "we need something like our current CRM but in Salesforce," the result will be literal and probably wrong. Write detailed user stories, acceptance criteria, and edge case documentation.

**Salesforce-specific architecture decisions.** Many engagements go wrong at the architecture layer, not the implementation layer. Governor limits, trigger frameworks, SOQL query patterns, and integration patterns aren't things a standard developer decides well — they need an architect-level thinker at the design stage.

**Post-launch ownership.** UK companies often commission the build and then have no ongoing relationship. Salesforce is a platform that evolves — seasonal releases, deprecated features, platform updates. Budget for quarterly maintenance reviews.

What to actually look for

When evaluating an Indian Salesforce partner for a UK engagement:

1. **Ask for production org references.** Not case studies — actual reference clients you can call. 2. **Ask what went wrong on a past project.** Any honest partner has a story. No story = red flag. 3. **Ask who specifically will work on your project.** Senior engineers are used to win deals; junior engineers often deliver them. Confirm before signing. 4. **Ask about their development and QA process.** Scratch testing, integration environments, deployment automation — these aren't optional for enterprise Salesforce work. 5. **Run a paid discovery sprint before committing to a full engagement.** A week of discovery at a fixed price tells you more about the partner than any sales call.

The cost math for UK businesses

A typical UK mid-size Salesforce implementation (Sales Cloud + custom objects + 2 integrations + Experience Cloud portal) might take 6–8 months of work.

With a UK-based consultancy: £200K–£350K With a strong Indian partner: £60K–£120K

The gap is real. The risk is real too — a failed implementation has to be rebuilt, which costs more than doing it right the first time.

Due diligence isn't optional. But the cost savings available to UK companies working with Indian Salesforce partners are large enough to make due diligence genuinely worthwhile.
